  • Don’t interact with an email that you were not expecting, even if it is someone you know.  Be especially careful clicking on links or opening attachments! If you aren’t sure, contact them by other means and verify that the email was actually from them.
  • Don’t respond to unsolicited emails asking for account or credit card numbers, user names or passwords, social security numbers, date of birth or other personal and financial information. Scam emails, also known as “phishing” emails, will often come with an urgent warning and possibly threats that your account will be closed unless you provide the information.
  • Verify that any website where you enter personal or financial information is secure.  Secure websites will contain “https://” in the address line and should include an image of a security padlock somewhere on the browser screen.
  • Only use security products from reputable companies.  At a minimum, your computer should have anti-virus and anti-spyware software and a firewall. Set your security software, internet browser, and operating system to update automatically.
  • When using WiFi to access your account, make sure it is a trusted connection that requires a password.  Be certain that you know the exact WiFi network name.
  • Keep your electronic media ( hard drives, USB drives, and mobile devices ) in a secure placeespecially if you are saving any banking information on them.
  • Don’t store your passwords, personal or account information on your computer or browser.
  • When your business is completed, make sure to log out of any website requiring a login especially eBanking sessions, whether it be the website or the BoD Mobile App.
  • Change your Bank of Dickson eBanking password immediately if you suspect it may have been compromised and notify the bank.
  • Make sure to erase your computer before selling, trading or donating it.
